Building Your Web Presence

Once you decide that you want to build a presence on the Internet there are several things you will need to do to establish yourself and your website.

The decisions made during the process of building a web presence will have an impact on the level of success you experience with your web presence.  The webpages in this section provide detail on many of the tasks and decisions you will face as you build your web.  At the outset it should be noted that making a mistake in building your web is not a big problem because in just being at the point where you have decided that now is the time to build your own web presence puts you ahead of hundreds of thousands of other businesses.  Sure, making a mistake will be a setback for you, but on the Internet there are very few mistakes that cannot be rectified fairly easily.  You will soon learn that you can control how and where you locate your presence on the web to a much greater extent than practically anything else about your business.  Moving from one hosting service to another and making changes to your website can be done very easily.   You need to firmly implant in your mind that you are not going to let anyone take advantage either of your inexperience with the Internet or your profession.  Of course, your ability to control your web presence expands as your knowledge of how the Internet works expands.  You will also need to understand that there are many people on the Internet that do not want you (or any other business new to the Internet) to learn just how easy it is to become just as knowledgeable about the Internet as folks that have been involved with the Internet for many years.

The growth of the Internet has been very rapid, and that growth is actually becoming more rapid.  Just three or four years ago many Internet "gurus" stated that Internet experience could be counted in dog years, which meant that a year of Internet experience was like seven years experience in practically any other industry.  More recently it has been said that the Internet is basically reinventing itself every six months.  That statement means has advantages and disadvantages for both those "experienced" in the ways of the Internet and those that are new to the Internet.  If the Internet is reinventing itself every six months, you can truthfully say that you have only six months less experience with the Internet (as it exists today) than any other person working on the Internet.  The downside of the statement is that unless you strive to "keep up" with Internet developments you can see your "knowledge" of the Internet rapidly become outdated.  The really good news is that you are in just as good a position to "keep up" as anybody else on the Internet, and you should never be feel that what you know about the Internet is any more current than what anybody else tells you.  We are all on the Internet bandwagon together, and each of us that really wants to stay on the Internet bandwagon knows that our individual success on the Internet will be more and more dependent on making the Internet and knowledge of the Internet increasingly accessible for any and all that come to the Internet.  Over the next few years many exciting things will be happening in our world because of our ever expanding interest in the Internet.  If you are new to the Internet this very day, you can still count yourself as being amongst the group that will be known as Internet pioneers.

The above remarks may seem to wax as sounding very much like a philosophical statement.   The remarks are meant to provide you with a strong sense of confidence that will carry you along the process of building your web presence.  So, the webpages in this section will provide you with information in the following areas:

bulletSelecting a Domain Name
bulletSelecting a Web Hosting Service
bulletDesigning your web
bulletPromoting your web
bulletWhere to find good web resources

Each of the sections listed above include information you will need to build a successful web presence.
