This is a photo of me standing next to a marker high on the Great Wall of China. The
photo was taken in January. I was lucky that the temperature was just above
freezing because the week before it was much colder. |
One of the
reasons I have included this photo is to illustrate a good way of adding photos to your
website. I have seen many websites that present a thumbnail photo, which in many
cases is simply a logical resizing of the full photo, that is linked to a raw image file
residing on the website. When the visitor clicks on the thumbnail to view the full
size photo they see just the photo displayed in the upper left hand corner of their
browser with no background or other formatting. Such a display does provide the
photo for viewing by the visitor, but the visitor does not have the benefit of viewing the
photo in a way that includes the graphic theme of your website. In addition, you
miss the opportunity to also show any additional information or links back to your other
webpages. The ability to present your photos in the best possible setting while also
providing yourself with the opportunity to also add a custom caption to the photo will
always create a much more favorable impression for your visitor.
